If you're using AOL then you might want to be able to browse the web
or perform other activities without having the distraction of Instant
Messages being sent to you.
To turn off receiving Instant Messages:
Open a new instant message.
In the screen name type $IM_off
Type anything in the message portion (pressing space is enough for example).
Press OK and you're done.
To turn back on receiving Instant Messages:
Open a new instant message
In the screen name type $IM_on
Type anything in the message portion (pressing space is enough for example)
Press OK and you're done.
Note: This tip will only turn off IMs for the current session.
If you want to permanently turn off IMs, log in to AOL using the
master screen name, and then go to the keyword PARENTAL CONTROLS.
