Click Here | Product Description: Natasha is ten years old when her parents take her back to Islamabad. Born and bred in Los Angeles, she is less than keen on the move. Slowly she assimilates, guided by a grandmother who is determined to transform her and discovering the customary traditions through funerals and weddings. When an early marriage presents the opportunity to move back to the land of her birth, however, Natasha jumps at it, only to be disappointed by the less than favorable treatment of Muslims she witnesses in post 9/11 America. Spanning a decade (1994-2004), Rodeo Drive to Raja Bazaar is a social and political portrait of contemporary Pakistan and its immigrant population in America. With its mixture of the rich, poor and middle classes, democracy interspersed with military rule, liberals facing off with conservatives, and increasing interplay of religion, the novel is at once humorous, thought-provoking, and an easy read for all ages. |

Click Here | Product Description: In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have occasionally been asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services in Pakistan. The purpose of this study is to understand the density of demand within Pakistan and the extent to which Islamabad might be used as a point of distribution within The Middle East. From an economic perspective, however, Islamabad does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries, rather, it represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.
In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for Islamabad over the next five years for hundreds of industries, categories and products. The goal of this report is to report the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by Islamabad when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in Islamabad used by the space industry to launch satellites. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by the area served by Islamabad. Without Islamabad, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the population in Pakistan, The Middle East, or the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both The Middle East and Islamabad. |

Click Here | Product Description: The Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing occurred on 20 September 2008, when a dump truck filled with explosives detonated in front of the Marriott Hotel in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, killing at least 54, injuring at least 266 and leaving a 60 ft (20 m) wide, 20 ft (6 m) deep crater outside the hotel. The majority of the casualties were Pakistanis; although at least five foreign nationals were killed and fifteen others reported injured. The attack occurred mere hours after President Asif Ali Zardari made his first speech to parliament. The Marriott was the most prestigious hotel in the capital, located near government buildings and diplomatic missions. It was popular with foreigners and the Pakistani elite. The hotel had previously been the target of militants. In 2007, a suicide bomber killed himself and another person in an attack at the hotel. The Islamabad Marriott reopened on December 28. |
